Guam
Trip - Snorkeling
- Tumon
Bay, which was right in front of our hotel, was like a big warm swim
through aquarium. The reef out away from shore prevented waves
from coming in which was great for snorkeling. You had to watch
out for the coral and wear protective shoes but the underwater scenery
was beautiful and was worth the small risk. Audrey and I bought
masks and snorkels at the local K-mart and I also bought one of those
Kodak disposable underwater cameras. Below are some of the photos
I took with it.
- We
got one of the fishes to take our picture.
- This
is the very first thing that Audrey saw when she stuck her head under
the water! It is some sort of eel or sea snake. We followed
it around for a while. It eventually went into a crab hole and
became the crab's lunch!
- Here
is the swim-through aquarium I was talking about. Swimming around
stirred up the bottom and that attracted fish. This is what I
saw when I looked behind me!
- Spiny
sea urchins lined up like bowling pins. Don't touch!
- These
weird tubular looking fish hung around the bottom. When you got
close to them they changed colors almost instantaneously from uniform
brown to spotted!
-
- The
Lion Fish was one of my favorites. It is just below the center of the
photograph. He has stripes all down his body and many spiny fins
surrounding him that look kind of like a lion's mane.
